2010 Census

By now all Wyoming residents should have received your 2010 Census forms.  If you have not completed and mailed back your forms yet, please take just a few minutes to do so.  It really only takes about ten minutes.  The forms are easy to understand and fill out.

Completing and returning your Census form is important because the information gathered on these forms determines many things such as federal funding for roads, schools, housing, hospitals, etc. in our area.  If the government doesn’t know how many people it serves in a particular area, it can’t know how much money to spend on that area.

Households that do not return their Census forms will be visited by Census takers in the future to be interviewed.  It is much easier and less time consuming to just fill out your forms and return by mail. If you have misplaced your form, there will be forms available at the Questionnaire Center at the Wyoming Annex on Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Message from Chief Manuszak

The Wyoming Police Department is pleased to announce that it is in the process of registering with the 'A Child Is Missing' program. I am sure you are all aware of the 'Amber Alert' program that is activated through the multiple media outlets when it is believed by law enforcement that an abduction of a child has occurred. The "A Child Is Missing' program works in tandem with the 'Amber Alert' system. This program not only allows people in the area of possible concern to  locate missing children, but it also alerts people to be on the look out for the elderly (Alzheimer's patients) and the disabled who may have walked away from their facility or left their care giver. It does not matter whether this appears to be by force or under the subject's own actions. This program can be activated whenever any person falls into any of these categories. The system works by a database used by the “A Child Is Missing” program. It contacts people in the area of concern to be on the lookout with an automated message with the details of the missing person(s). If a phone number, whether it is a land line or a cellular telephone, is 'UNLISTED', the person responsible for the phone account can register their phone number on the secure 'A Child Is Missing' website at www.AChildIsMissing.org so that they may get the alerts. This program was used in the State of Delaware by the New Castle County Police Department on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 when a 14 year old autistic boy went missing.  Over 2,500 alerts were sent out by this system and the boy was located unharmed approximately 6 miles from where he was last seen. If you have any questions about this system, please feel free to contact me.

I would also like to announce that by the beginning of April 2010 the Wyoming Police Department will be accepting applications for the annual Mike Brown Scholarship Program sponsored by the Town of Wyoming and the Wyoming Police Department. The applications will be available at the Caesar Rodney High School's guidance office and also at the Wyoming Town Hall. The application packets will contain all the pertinent information as to how to apply and what the requirements are to be eligible. The deadline for all scholarship applications to be turned in is Monday, May 3, 2010 by 4:30 pm. If you have any questions about this scholarship, please feel free to contact me or Mrs. Pam Haddick, Town Clerk for the Town of Wyoming, at 302-697-2966. Good luck to everyone!

Message from the Mayor

The following was accepted at the April 5th Town Council Meeting and I need to share it with you:

Members of Council and Fellow Residents,

Well over a year ago I made a decision to step up and run for the office of Mayor. I based that decision on the need for our Town Council to work together toward a common goal for the betterment of our community.

I believe, through my leadership, that the town witnessed an era of: volunteering, whether donating time or material resources, openness of government, financial responsibility and an overall attitude of doing what is right.

Since September I have had a difficult and frustrating time dealing with the choices made and subsequently approved of by some members of our police department and some members of our council.

In January I announced that an opportunity had come before my family to fulfill a

dream. Unfortunately, it would require that I would no longer live within town limits.

My intention is to step down as mayor of our town. But before doing so, I ask everyone on council to remember that you are here to serve the people of our community, not yourselves. The decisions that have been made and will continue to be made affect every resident in this town directly or indirectly.

My own personal and professional ethics will not permit me to continue to serve as Mayor within the current conditions that now exist with this administration of the Town of Wyoming.  I ask you now to accept my tendered resignation as of Monday, April 5, 2010.

Thank you,
Mike Marasco

The Town will be accepting letters of interest to fill the vacant council seat the resignation of our mayor has opened.  Please drop or mail letters to 1 N. Railroad Avenue no later than 4:30 PM, Friday, May 7th, 2010.
