Where is this?  If you guessed Pippin’s Funeral Home, you are correct.  Since the installation of the fountain in the front of their home the Pippins have found a significant number of coins in the fountain.    Children seem to enjoy throwing in the coins; therefore, Larry and Mary Pippin have decided to support the Make A Wish Foundation by matching any coins collected in the fountain and donating to the Foundation.

The Make A Wish Foundation provides wishes to seriously ill and terminally ill children.

All are encouraged to toss some coins to help a child.

Adopt-A-Family

Wyoming is planning to adopt a family for the holidays.  We have chosen a family with a single mom and four children ranging in age from 11 to 16.  There are 2 boys and 2 girls.  The youngest (boy) attends W. B. Simpson Elementary School; a 13 year old (girl) attends Fifer Middle School; and the other two (15 year old girl and 16 year old boy) attend Caesar Rodney High School.  The Town is asking for help from those residents who are able to help us out in providing gifts for these children for the holidays.  Due to the variety of ages, sizes, needs and interests of these children, we feel it would be easiest if residents would donate cash to the Town and someone here will be delegated to shop so that each child is provided for equally.  If, however, you prefer buying a gift, each of the four children needs an umbrella.  Both of the girls need crazy colors of socks, both ankle and knee highs, as well as hats and gloves, and hair products.  Both of the boys need boxers (boy’s medium and men's medium), ankle socks (boy’s and men’s), and Axe deodorant.  The donations the Town receives will fill in the more specific items each child needs.  We will be delivering all the gifts unwrapped to the mother along with all the wrapping supplies needed so that she can wrap the items herself.  Please have all donations (whether gift or cash) dropped off at Town Hall no later than Friday, December 18th.  Final shopping will be done that weekend (19th & 20th) in order for everything to be delivered to the mother by Monday, December 21st.  Thank you in advance for anything you can give to help the Town give this family a nice holiday.  Remember: gifts should be unwrapped and cash is welcome.  All is due in Town Hall no later than Friday, December 18th.

Town Elections

In February, 2010, which is right around the corner, the Town of Wyoming will be holding an election for two council seats.  Mrs. Williams’ and Mr. Witt’s seats will both be up for election.

Anyone interested in running must submit a letter of intent along with a completed criminal background check from the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI). These items must be received in Town Hall no later than 4:30 p.m. on Friday, January 29, 2010.  With proof of payment all candidates will be reimbursed the cost of the criminal background check.

To be eligible to run for office, you must be at least 21 years of age, a citizen of the State of Delaware, and a bona fide domiciliary of the Town of Wyoming for at least one year.

C W Sewer & Water

Water

The Town of Wyoming will be looking for someone interested in representing the Town on the Camden Wyoming Sewer & Water Authority.  Mr. Lester Stillson, who currently holds a one year term, will be resigning from the Authority in early Spring as he will be out of town for several months.  The Sewer & Water Authority holds a monthly meeting on the second Tuesday of each month at the C W Sewer & Water Authority Building at 7:00 p.m.  If you might be interested in taking this position, please send a letter of interest to:  Town of Wyoming, 1 N. Railroad Avenue, Wyoming, DE 19934 or drop it off to Town Hall.

Why wish for a white holiday?

Instead, make this holiday season green !

Instead of buying decorations, try making decorations yourself or with your family.  Popsicle sticks, old gift wrap, bows, ribbons, and cards all make great decorations by adding a little creative spark.  Get creative and see what happens— last year’s stack of holiday cards you received, could be this year’s Christmas tree garland.

Holiday greeting cards create a large amount of waste.  This year would be a good year to try to send electronic greetings to your friends and family.  Get creative with it and upload a picture of you and your family or just a picturesque scene to send along with your greetings.  If you do buy paper greeting cards, try to look for cards that were made out of recycled paper.

How about you give your holiday tree a new lease on life by using it as a wildlife sanctuary in the winter months!  After the holidays, if you place the tree in a garden area, you can use it as a bird feeder by placing strung popcorn on its branches (just be sure to remove all other decorations and hooks).

Message from the Mayor

Hello fellow citizens,

What an exciting time. An incredibly successful Halloween bash, our town Comprehensive Plan and Charter update are both entering the final draft stage, our RR Avenue and New Burton Road sidewalk projects have been awarded to contractors, we will be preparing for our annual town election and Christmas and New Years are just around the corner. Whew!  Not only an exciting time, but a busy one too.  As we all enter this holiday season, please keep in mind those who might be in need. There are many organizations that welcome donations of any type to help those who want to help themselves. This year the town is participating in the Adopt-a-family program through the Caesar Rodney School District to help a local family get the necessities they need to survive and hopefully have a more celebrated Christmas. There is information in this newsletter on how you can partner with others in our town to help this family. Please consider donating to this cause.
Please have a happy Christmas and a safe, merry New Year.

Mike Marasco

Message from Chief Manuszak

The Wyoming Police Department would like to take the opportunity to make contact with the community we serve. Patrolman Dan Creech has been placed in charge of the Wyoming Police Department's community policing program. While all of the Wyoming police officers will participate in these community programs, Patrolman Creech will be the point of contact for this task. Our hope is to get everyone involved in our community to build a better relationship with our police department.  In doing this we hope that the lines of communication will be more open and free flowing and that you can develop a personal relationship with all of our police officers. If you have any ideas for our new community policing program, please feel free to contact the police department directly or you can email Patrolman Creech at daniel.creech@cj.state.de.us. The Wyoming Police Department wishes everyone safe and happy holidays!
