Election Results

Congratulations to incumbents Terry Witt and Georgette Williams for winning back their seats on Council at the February 27th election.  Thanks to Paula King and Dale Rife for wanting to be involved with our Town enough to run for a seat.  It is great to have so many residents getting involved.

Huge thanks go out to our Election Board, Richard Stockslager, Joanne Everett and Jack Fairfull as well as our Poll Workers, Jaci Stokes, Louise Fair, Erika Reigle and substitute Don Pommell for volunteering their time to the Town on Election Day.  We couldn’t do it all without the help of our volunteers.

Mr. Witt and Ms. Williams will be sworn in for their new terms at the Reorganization Meeting of the Town on Monday, May 3, 2010, at 7:00 p.m. at the Town Annex followed by the May Council Meeting at 7:30.  Come out and attend if you are able.

Wyoming Trivia

Wyoming Trivia is an article that we intend to include in the Newsletter for the next few months to see how much our residents know about the town we live in and to give our newcomers a short history lesson.  There will by a question this month.  Anyone knowing the answer may call or stop by Town Hall and received a Town of Wyoming pen.

Trivia Question

On what street was Wyoming’s High School located?  (Hint:  this was way before Caesar Rodney High School came along.)

Call or stop by Town Hall with your correct answer and receive a Town of Wyoming pen.

Wyoming Park

Spring is right around the corner, Easter is just three (3) weeks away, and our Wyoming Park is waking up for the new season.  The Town expects to have the bathrooms open and usable within the next couple of weeks.  Start planning your spring and summer events at the pavilion and give Town Hall a call to make a reservation.  The weekends fill up quickly so don’t delay.  In fact, there are already four (4) reservations for weddings at the pavilion, one in April and three in May.  Wyoming Park is a beautiful backdrop for almost any occasion.  HAPPY SPRING!!!

Low Sodium Recipes Needed

The Town has been approached by a mother with a handicapped daughter who needs to be on a low sodium diet.  She is requesting any good low sodium recipes that she can try for her daughter as well as possibly publish in a low sodium cookbook.  Proceeds from the sale of the cookbook could help to support the family as she is the head if the family and had to give up her job when her daughter was in the accident which caused the handicap.

If any of you have recipes you are willing to share, we have some forms in Town Hall you can fill out and sign to give permission for your recipe to be published.  Give us a call or stop by.  If you can’t get here, forms can be mailed to you.  Thanks for your support.

Message from the Mayor

Hello fellow residents,
I am going to take this opportunity to inform you of important happenings in our town.
First, our current budget situation is dire.  Although we do not heavily rely on the real estate transfer tax as a source of income for the town, the significant decrease in revenue from this source coupled with the loss of municipal street aid money has put a tremendous strain on the town’s finances.  I can assure you that the town has taken every means possible, short of employee lay-offs, to cut back expenses.  I am hopeful that working with our 3 employee departments and our vendors we will make it through May 1st without a shortfall.  We should have property tax money coming in by then.
Second, council members are currently deliberating over the next fiscal year’s budget.  We are having weekly workshops every Monday night at 7:00.  Topics at these workshops are: sources of revenue, operational expenses and labor costs.  It is hopeful that the municipal street aid money will be available next fiscal year; however, the reality transfer tax income is forecasted to remain significantly low.  Please attend a workshop to share your concerns or suggestions.
Third, we still are looking for volunteers for the betterment of our town, through committees or town sponsored activities such as Pride Day and Halloween.  Please contact the town hall and let Pam know your interests.

Message from Chief Manuszak

The Wyoming Police Department and the Nixle Company have teamed up to bring important news to anyone that is interested in signing up for the information. The Nixle Company offers a free community notification system through cell phones via text messages, email, or by your website. There is no charge to the police department or to the individual signing up for the service. The only charge you may receive would be from your cell phone provider for a text message. The information is loaded in to the system by the police department or Town Hall personnel through Nixle's website and then is sent to anyone that registers to receive the information. The information has different levels of the type of message. It can range from a serious public safety issue or just letting you know about a community event (Pride Day, Peach Festival, and Halloween). If you would like to register for the service or obtain more information, just log on to www.nixle.com and follow the instructions. If you should have any questions please feel free to contact me at (302) 697-7960 at extension 16 if I am not in the office. You can also contact me via email at charles.manuszak@cj.state.de.us. I hope you find the program helpful to you. Thank you for your consideration in participating in this program.
