The TOW Halloween Event was a huge success!  Many children and parents alike enjoyed wonderful food, goody bags, apples, popcorn and juice.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank my Committee Members for a “job well done!”  These persons are, Joanne Everett, Jaci Stokes, Elaine Bilow, Laura Witt, Frank King, B.J. Van Kavelaar, Dave Van Kavelaar, Pam Haddick, and Nicole Armour.  Other help support that night was, Jason Quillin, Councilman William Spruill, Barbara Spruill, and Tyler Stokes. Also last but not least, thanks to Lew Denham for all of his help and support in this event.

I am pleased to report ALL remaining items, apples, juices, goody bags with two free children’s meals to Texas Roadhouse and Chick-Fil-A, pencils, and popcorn were donated to Shepherd’s Place Family Shelter in Dover.  They were extremely appreciative.  This year our goal was to give craft items and healthy snacks for kids in the “goody bags.”  We accomplished this goal with many generous business donations and vendor contributions.  “Special thanks” to the Wyoming Tavern for allowing us to make popcorn to fill 400 bags for six hours on October 31st.  They presented us with the Town of Wyoming “Popcorn of a Town” Award for our efforts. It has been a pleasure to serve as Chairman of this Committee for the Town of Wyoming.
Sincerely,
Paula King

Your Neighborhood Storm Drain
The water that flows over the land from rain storms and snow fall is called storm water. Storm water can flow over rooftops, paved areas, lawns and gardens and it can collect anything that is on those surfaces (for example: litter, motor oil, fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides, and pet waste).  The polluted storm water will flow down storm drains and directly into nearby ponds, streams, and rivers. Storm drains do not filter or clean the water before it enters the waterway; so anything that you may leave or put on the ground eventually goes into the St. Jones River and into the Delaware Bay!

Take Care of Those Pipes!
Bursting pipes in the winter time can cause a strain on water supply levels and also on a homeowner’s wallet.  By preventing pipe bursts and water loss now, you can help conserve water and money!  If you have outside spigots, turn them off during the winter months to prevent them from bursting due to the cold temperatures.  You can also winterize them for when temperatures dip below freezing to prevent the pipes from leaking or bursting.
Funded by the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control Division of Soil and Water Conservation, Kate O’Brien is the Watershed Coordinator for the St. Jones Watershed.  Water pollution affects everyone. Look for future items that will discuss local water issues and simple ways that you can make a difference in your community!  To contact Kate, please call 302-739-9939 or email her at kate.o’brien@state.de.us.

2ND Annual Rider Pride Day

Saturday, October 17, was an enjoyable day for all who attended the 2nd annual Rider Pride Day at Caesar Rodney High School.  The Town of Wyoming participated with a table covered with Wyoming information and old photos of the town.  The biggest draw; however, seemed to be the basket of candy Town Clerk Pam Haddick brought to hand out to the children and adults alike.

Adopt a Family
The Town of Wyoming is considering adopting a family during the holidays this year as we have in the past in place of sending out holiday cards.  If anyone is aware of a family that lives in Wyoming and could use some assistance in making a happy holiday for their children, please contact Pam or Nicole in Town Hall at 697-2966 with information about the family.

Message from Chief Manuszak

The Wyoming Police Department has started a foot patrol program in an effort to be more available to the residents and visitors of the Town of Wyoming. You will periodically see police officers walking up and down your street at various times of the day. The officers will be checking on properties to make sure that the doors and windows are secure and to make contact with residents to address any problems that anyone may have. So please don't be concerned or think something is wrong in your part of town when you see one of us walking around. Please feel free to contact any one of us, whether in the car, on a bike, or just walking around.
Enjoy your Thanksgiving holiday!

Bake & Craft Sale
The Camden-Wyoming Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary will be holding their annual bake & craft sale on Saturday, November 14th from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the C-W Fire Hall.  If you haven’t started your holiday shopping, now is the time!

Support Our Fire Company
You will soon be receiving information in the mail from the Camden Wyoming Fire Company regarding their fall fund drive.  Last year’s budget was $966,000 of which the government only supported 41%.  The Fire Company raised the other 59% themselves.  This year the budget has been decreased to $882,000 of which the government will only be supporting 39% leaving 61% for the Fire Company to raise.  Serious challenges are ahead for this year.  They need your support.  The Fire Company has a Volunteer Recruitment Program.  There are positions available from administrative to fire fighting.  They also have a Jr. Membership Program which helps give young people direction.  Their free time is spent at the Fire Hall doing good work, leaving
no time for getting into trouble.  Their school work is even overseen to be sure they don’t get behind with that.
If these programs don’t get support, it could mean that our Fire Company would have to become a paid rather than volunteer fire company.  This will raise our taxes.  (See the State Auditor’s website to view the cost savings of having a volunteer fire service.)  By everyone giving a small amount now, we could be saving ourselves future tax increases.  Please donate!
